Hello! I am Arushi Tandon and I am delighted that you want to know about me. I am currently living in Kolkata, India and am 14 years old. From a young age, I have known my strengths and weaknesses, exploiting them to my advantage. I was reading ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank and admired her self-analyzing traits. I adopted her attempt in my own life, turning difficulties to opportunities and opportunities to benefits for all. I am able to judge without prejudice and easily sort out problems. I adapt without difficulty to new surroundings and like exercising mental stimulation. I am persuasive in my writing and speeches to influence preset mindsets of people according to my view.

One topic I feel strongly about is the overall development of an individual. I believe everyone should attempt at being an all-rounder. But I am acquainted with the old adage, ’practice what you preach.’

I myself am an all-rounder. I achieved CGPA of 10/10 in Grade 9 and 10 and have always had my percentage in the top 3 in my class. I have received many awards for excellence in English, Hindi, French, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. I have participated in many Olympiads and debates and achieved merit and good national ranks.

I have been playing the piano since I was 6, and am now preparing for teaching diploma in Piano by ABRSM Royal School of Music London. I love to compose new tunes to my poems. Yes, I also write poems. I also received Scholarship from the Government of India for 6 years for creative writing. I have also published three anthologies of poems and am writing fiction novels.

Since the age of 6, I have been swimming and playing Lawn Tennis. I have been in my schools Athletics team since the age of 9 and am a National Level Athlete and Swimmer. I also play badminton, squash and keep fit by visiting the gym regularly. If at this point you are thinking of me as over-confident, then I must contradict you. I am aware of my strengths, and am not shy to exhibit them.

I also love playing Chess and Cluedo, which require me to exercise my “little grey cells”. If you guessed this clue, then you must also have guessed that I love reading novels. My favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Enid Blyton, J. K. Rowling, Dan Brown, Rabindranath Tagore, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Suzanne Collins, Christopher Paolini, Sarah Morgan, Stephenie Mayor, John Ghisham, Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Rick Roirdon, Jeff Kinney, C. S. Lewis, Lewis Carroll, Gerald Durrell,  and.. Well, the list is endless. I believe I have read up to a thousand series, autobiographies, novels, etc.

Another subject about which I feel strongly is social services. None can control where they would be born, but each person can touch the sky if provided the opportunity. I regularly donate to orphanages with my pocket money and spend time with the children there. My mother is a special educator, and I have helped her in providing tuition to the special students.

“Education is not preparation for life, it is life itself.” If the right to education is snatched from some due to monetary constraints, it is the worst form of torture to those who want to study. So I invented an app in which used books are bought and sold for extremely cheap rates or for free. This way none is hindered from pursuing their goals.

With my father’s help, I built a machine which would help our maid in cleaning the utensils faster and more efficiently. I had noticed that she was only able to cover a few houses in a day. By using this machine, she increases her income by finishing her work faster and attending more houses.

I was also the Vice-Captain of my house, in charge of and accountable to all actions of 12 Prefects who worked under me and of 800 students in my house in Junior, Middle and High school. I had to manage all the charts and boards and volunteers when my house was on duty and had to appoint and select people to represent my house for academic and extracurricular events.

Another topic which I found intriguing was the fast adoption of solar panels in the world. I worked on this idea and came up with a model and maps of Inter National Connecting Lines, through which electricity would be supplied throughout the world from one zone. My father liked the concept and I applied a patent for the same.

When I was younger, I used to see my family coping up with my grandfather, who was suffering from Alzheimer. He used to wander alone away from our house at night. So my cousin sister and I constructed a mini-GPS tracking device which we attached on his clothes. Also, we came up with the idea of putting a reverse switch under his mattress, after understanding its mechanism. Similarly I made several small machines which would help ease his and our lives.

I am progressive, original and creative. I am also independent and intrigued by everything around me. I don’t have a favorite subject as such. Everything in this Universe is overlapping. For example, for understanding genetic biology, we should also know history of that species and geography of its surroundings, along with the physics of the lenses in the microscope. And I am adroit enough to juggle all these subjects skillfully and manage and grasp their concepts.
